Solo Exhibition
14 Oct 2009 - 1 Nov 2009
At twenty-five, Anthony Day's third solo show marks him as a landscape painter to be reckoned with. A bush upbringing under open skies and two sell-out shows in Melbourne has prepared him well for this next step in his growing reputation. The changing weather of art draws Day forward into a figurative abstraction that Turner understood so well. Like Turner, Day's process is unique. Heeding the Australian tradition of landscape masters, Day hunts the remarkable atmospheres of the Australian bush with an organic layering that demands close observation of the land. This sharpness of view occurs in all his works. The pastures, hilltops, skies and approaching smoke is brought alive with Day's temper. Yet Day speaks of "concoctions of the mind" where the spirit of Euroa and the Strathbogie Ranges emerge from his process, in a visual style which is forming to mark Day as an artist of true integrity.
